I’M GRATEFUL

  • Our Goal is to Stay Positive  To Keep our eyes on Jesus and Focus on the Positive.  Okay week 1

We argued that there is an Epidemic of Negativism.

  • Do  YOU Sound negative—Wrapped in negativity—Starbucks blank cups—Long lines at In-n-Out—Complaining almost becomes an art form

Well that was week, I   We all learned to be OPTIMISTIC.

We decided that:

I’M NOT OPTIMISTIC BASED ON WHAT I FEEL .

I’M OPTIMISTIC BASED ON WHAT GOD SAYS .

  • Week 2, Are you Selfish with your resources? Do you have Fear about someone stealing it from you?  That was last week, Week 2  The challenge was to be Generous.   We learned that it was God who gives us the resources that we have and we need to be generous.  Look at this verse:

10 For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. 2 Cor 9:10

WEEK 3, THIS week we are talking about being Grateful.  We have issues with this!!!

1. BIG ISSUES WITH BEING GRATEFUL

A. By nature , We are not grateful—Want more, Want better, Want it now.

Are you Like that?  Anytime something goes wrong we freak out!!

Not realizing how much has been provided for us.

Do you ever sit back and Just thank God in extreme gratefulness?

Like King David in Psalm 9:1

“I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;

I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.” ESV

Are you grateful?  Do you choose to be grateful?

Complain weather—complain car—complain house—complain clothes—Complain job—complain spouse, life, marriage…

Let’s become the people who are Obsessed with developing a heart of gratitude

I’m going to choose gratitude—Let’s do that together.

Okay,  3 Conversations about being Grateful   The first is why be Grateful.  Second, I want to talk about how Being Grateful is the Response we should have in everything and third and I want to talk about how Being Grateful is our Choice.

I. Being Grateful is God’s Will

18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

  1. Being Grateful honors God.

“giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me” Psalm 50:23

1. We need to learn to thank God not just for what he does but who He is.

  1. Being Grateful creates fellowship.

1. Gratitude always builds deeper relationships between you and other people.

2. Think how much closer your relationships would be if you Stayed Positive.  Focused on what you are thankful for.

3 Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. Philippians 1:3

  1. Being Grateful develops my faith.

1. He’s always promised that even when things don’t go my way, he can work it out for good in my life. (Romans 8:28)

2. Ultimately, his plan is in action, and it takes a growing faith to recognize that.

  1. Being Grateful serves others.

1 Everybody in life needs massive doses of encouragement.

2. We have an unqualified need to be affirmed, to be loved, to be appreciated.

  1. Being Grateful is a witness to unbelievers.

1.  The Bible says that as believers, we are to live in a way that makes the truth about God attractive.

35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. John 13:35

II. Being Grateful is Our Response

11 As Jesus continued on toward Jerusalem, he reached the border between Galilee and Samaria. 12 As he entered a village there, ten lepers stood at a distance, 13 crying out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”

(Lev 13: Wear torn clothes, Cover lower face, Unclean!

Eats away at flesh, Oozing sores. Wake up missing finger/rat.

Years since they’ve been touched or hugged)

14 He looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.”  And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy.

15 One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!” 16 He fell to the ground at Jesus’ feet, thanking him for what he had done. This man was a Samaritan.

17 Jesus asked, “Didn’t I heal ten men? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19 And Jesus said to the man, “Stand up and go. Your faith has healed you.”  Luke 17:11-19

Where is the gratitude?  Where is the Thank you?

III. Being Grateful is Our Choice

  A. 2 STATEMENTS THAT WILL HELP US CHOOSE GRATITUDE

  1. I KNOW EVERY GOOD THING I HAVE COMES FROM GOD.

17 Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father… James 1:17

     a.  Anything good we have comes from God!

        b. God is the giver of all good things!

  • God gave Noah a plan for the ark—Ability to build—Save his family.
  • God gave Israelites bread from heaven in the morning and fire by night
  • God gave David a stone to kill Goliath. Jonah a fish to swallow—shore.
  • God gave the Virgin Mary the faith to obey and give birth to Jesus.
  • God gave the Wise men a star to lead them.
  • God gave the world—the Prince of Peace, lamb of God—Savior.
  • God gives you—a peace that passes understanding—Holy Spirit to convict, strengthen, encourage. Gives you his Word to guide you.
  • Given you health to bless you. Friends love you. Life to enjoy.

———————————————————————————————–

  1. I WILL NOT LET WHAT I WANT ROB ME OF WHAT I HAVE.

9 Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don’t have. Just dreaming about nice things is meaningless—like chasing the wind. Ecclesiastes 6:9

  1. Gratitude turns what we have into enough.

11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:11-13

  1. Not happy people who are grateful—Grateful people who are happy.

2 Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. 3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. 4 He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. 5 He fills my life with good things. Psalm 103:2-5

  • I KNOW EVERY GOOD THING I HAVE COMES FROM GOD.
  • I WILL NOT LET WHAT I WANT ROB ME OF WHAT I HAVE.
