I. Why should we do Ministry? Why Share our Faith? Shouldn’t someone else do it?
- We are all Called to Ministry
– So many of us think that the paid pastor’s and leaders are to do all the work. That is not what the bible communicates.
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. 1 Peter 2:9a
- We are all Chosen to Show the Goodness of God
As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9b
Too often we say it, but do we live out God’s goodnesss in our lives and ministry.
No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 6:15
In order words, life out your faith, shine for Jesus and let all the praise go the Father.
- We are all Christ’s ambassadors
19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. 20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” 2 Corinthians 5:19-20
- We are all God’s Plan for Redemption
I will make you a light to the Gentiles… Isaiah 49:6
We are plan ‘A’…. There is no plan ‘B’
II. Doing Ministry as a Christ Follower – 7 Keys
1. Share with Courage
1 You yourselves know, dear brothers and sisters, that our visit to you was not a failure. 2 You know how badly we had been treated at Philippi just before we came to you and how much we suffered there. Yet our God gave us the courage to declare his Good News to you boldly, in spite of great opposition.
Courage to Press On…Courage to be Bold
2. Share with Purity
3 So you can see we were not preaching with any deceit or impure motives or trickery. 4a For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News.
- Be Real – no deceit, impure motives or trickery
- Be Trustworthy – God and others can count on you
3. Share to Please God
4b Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts. 5 Never once did we try to win you with flattery, as you well know. And God is our witness that we were not pretending to be your friends just to get your money! 6 As for human praise, we have never sought it from you or anyone else.
- God alone is who we please, not people.
- God alone knows we are real, not pretending.
4. Share Your Life
7 As apostles of Christ we certainly had a right to make some demands of you, but instead we were like children among you. Or we were like a mother feeding and caring for her own children. 8 We loved you so much that we shared with you not only God’s Good News but our own lives, too.
God’s Good News + Our Lives = Loving Others
5. Share With Effort
9 Don’t you remember, dear brothers and sisters, how hard we worked among you? Night and day we toiled to earn a living so that we would not be a burden to any of you as we preached God’s Good News to you. 10 You yourselves are our witnesses—and so is God—that we were devout and honest and faultless toward all of you believers.
- Devout – constant, dedicated, dependable
- Honest – direct, true, trustworthy
- Faultless – blameless, responsible, moral
6. Share The Truth
11 And you know that we treated each of you as a father treats his own children. 12 We pleaded with you, encouraged you, and urged you to live your lives in a way that God would consider worthy. For he called you to share in his Kingdom and glory.
“That is, to “walk worthy of the Lord” means to walk in a way that the Lord deserves from us. “ – John Piper
Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects… Colossians 1:10 (ESV)
7. Share God’s Word
13 Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received his message from us, you didn’t think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very word of God—which, of course, it is. And this word continues to work in you who believe.
- As it is God’s Word, not Humans Ideas.
- Let the Word work in your Life
