I. What is our Issue with Passion?

10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10:10

  1. satan is trying to destroy us, he is our enemy! …seeking to steal our passion!
  2. Jesus is trying to give us a rich and satisfying life with purpose…seeking to give us passion for life!

9 God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:9

II. 8 PASSION KILLERS

Emotional Passion Killers

1. An Unclear Purpose

4 I replied, “But my work seems so useless!  I have spent my strength for nothing and to no purpose.” Isaiah 49:4

2. An Unbalance Schedule

2 It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones. Psalm 127:2

    a. THERE MUST BE A BALANCE BETWEEN REST AND WORK

      4 I observed that most people are motivated to success       

      because they envy their neighbors. Ecclesiastes 4:4

    b. WHAT CAUSES PEOPLE TO OVERWORK?    

Insecurity — Materialism (3DM)

RELATIONAL PASSION KILLERS

3. An Unresolved Conflict

Passion Killers = Resentment and Jealousy

2 Surely resentment destroys the fool, and jealousy kills the simple. Job 5:2

4 You who tear yourself to pieces in your anger. Job 18:4

4. An Unsupported Lifestyle

9 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:24-25

SPIRITUAL PASSION KILLERS

5. An Unexamined Life

40 Instead, let us test and examine our ways. Let us turn back to the Lord. Lam. 3:40

31 But if we would examine ourselves, we would not be judged by God in this way.           1 Corinthians 11:31

5 Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith.                 2 Corinthians13:5

6. An Undernourished Soul

What would you call people who ate once a week?   Starving

3 He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Deuteronomy 8:3

21 My child, don’t lose sight of common sense and discernment.

    Hang on to them, 22 for they will refresh your soul. Proverbs 3:21-22

17 So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ. Romans 10:17

7. An Unapplied Truth

5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. 2 Peter 1:5-7

15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.  Ephesians 4:15
