THE UNWASTED LIFE 3

Steve With – Sep 9, 2018

“I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!”     John 15:11

The Unwasted Life is about preparation to live, I mean really live.  When we practice these principles we really live and love other people.  That is how we are most satisfied in life: “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-40

The key to living an Unwasted Life is living out our lives in such a way that we grow, work on our weaknesses, strive to follow even closer to Christ and serve those around us.  We may have difficulties and hard times, yet through Jesus Christ these times can be a source of rejoicing.

21 Ways to Not Waste Your Life

The Unwasted Life 3   …let’s start with point 15 of 21.

15)                       Dont waste your spiritual gifts

“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.  Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.” 1 Peter 4:10-11

Trivia Question: How many Christ Followers have Spiritual Gifts?

“When he ascended to the heights, he led a crowd of captives and gave gifts to his people.” Ephesians 4:8

? When we became a Christian, God gave us Gifts to serve.

  • Through the power of the Holy Spirit our lives are filled with wonderful gifts that encourage us, fill us, and energize us to do ministry: gives like serving, leading, caring, mercy, healing, speaking another language, prophecy, etc.  There are 20 gifts.
  • One of the ways to find your gifts is to start loving people by doing what you love and you will see what they are.  Another way is to take the Spiritual Gifts on our website.  You can download the test and find your God given gifts..

16)                     Don’t waste your racial diversity

“For Christ himself has brought peace to us.” Ephesians 2:14

? It’s a huge issue in America that never goes away. It is not a social issue and its an issue for every Christ Follower.

For Jesus himself is our peace:

  1. Jesus broke down the walls of Race: “He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us…”
  2. Jesus made Peace between all People:  “He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups…”
  3. Jesus made all Races One: “Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of his death on the cross, and our hostility toward each other was put to death. He brought this Good News of peace to you Gentiles who were far away from him, and peace to the Jews who were near.” Ephesians 2:14-17
  • Therefore,  Christ Followers are the ones who could model something different.  We have to be the ones who don’t stand against other colors, languages, and peoples
  • Please, never stop working on this. It will be the hardest thing we encounter. Criticism will come from many different angles. But we should never go away from it.

“From one man he created all the nations throughout the whole earth.” Acts 17:26

17)                   Don’t waste your Cultural Diversity

  • Race and culture are not the same thing. There are lots of cultural differences between white, black, asian, latino, etc.

“In the same way, some think one day is more holy than another day, while others think every day is alike. You should each be fully convinced that whichever day you choose is acceptable.  Those who worship the Lord on a special day do it to honor him. Those who eat any kind of food do so to honor the Lord, since they give thanks to God before eating. And those who refuse to eat certain foods also want to please the Lord and give thanks to God.  For we don’t live for ourselves or die for ourselves.  If we live, it’s to honor the Lord. And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord.“ Romans 14:5-9

  • Paul doesn’t assume that all the Romans will ever agree on every detail, nor does he try to conform them. Instead he encourages them to love each other in their diversity and to be fully convinced of it in their own minds before the Lord.

18)                     Don’t waste the call to Stay Put

“Yes, each of you should remain as you were when God called you.  Are you a slave? Don’t let that worry you—but if you get a chance to be free, take it.  And remember, if you were a slave when the Lord called you, you are now free in the Lord. And if you were free when the Lord called you, you are now a slave of Christ.  God paid a high price for you, so don’t be enslaved by the world. Each of you, dear brothers and sisters, should remain as you were when God first called you.” 1 Corinthians 7:20-24

  • Sometimes the call to stay put means that you should not be a missionary. But note the emphasis: it’s a call to remain “with God” and with the people and places He has called you.
  • You may face tough times, but God is in charge, and He knows what is best.

19                     Don’t waste Your Call to Move On

Abraham, Moses, Joshua, the prophets, all the apostles, Paul, and Timothy were all sent workers. And God is calling some in this room to change jobs and to relocate for his name’s sake.

“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” Matthew 9:36-38

“But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent?” Romans 10:14-15

20                           Don’t waste Your Death

“For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better.” Philippians 1:21

  • You are never done living for the glory of God until you die. At the moment of death it is a high calling. And when you experience your death as gain, you will show the world just how precious Jesus is.
  • One thing you can always remember, if you are fellowing Christ, your death will be better than life!!

“We want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. God himself has prepared us for this.”           2 Corinthians 5:4-5

21                           Don’t waste Your Abiding

“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.” John 15:4 (NASB)

  • “Abide” (???? – men?) means to hang out, dwell, stay, remain with…Many different translations use a different word, but they all mean the same.

“He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. “Stay here” (Abide) and keep watch with me.” Matthew 26:38

“But they begged him, “Stay the night with us (Abide with Us), since it is getting late.” So he went home with them” Luke 24:29

“And I will pray for the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever” John 14:16 (KJV)

  • Do you ever hang out with Jesus?  Read His word, talk to Him in prayer?  Maybe just take an hour some Saturday and walk and talk with your Lord.  Maybe just “Abide” with Him.

This a good summary for the whole series…

“I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.” John 15:5-12
